A whale of a time at Middle Lagoon (Day 94 - 97, July 26th to July 29th)

We enjoyed 4 wonderful, sunny, relaxing days at Middle Lagoon, which is170km north of Broome on the Dampier Peninsula.

We called into the Aboriginal community of Beagle Bay on our journey to Middle Lagoon. Beagle Bay became the site of a mission for the Aboriginal people dating back to 1890. The beautiful historic sacred heart church was built in WW1.  The interior of the church is decorated with shells, including mother of pearl,  cowries, volutes, and olives.

Arriving at Middle lagoon we set up camp 'on the ridge' overlooking the beautiful bay. Little did we know we were going to endure 30 knot winds that night, which would have half of the annex flapping in the "breeze" and our car awning inverting itself and spearing into my passenger window. Luckily the window didn't smash, just a few scratches, but the awning is now in the bin.

The wind would die down by lunch time each day and pick up again in the evening, the following 3 nights were windy but nothing like that first night!  A lot of people wont camp 'on the ridge' for that reason (way to windy) but our view and whale watching from our bed certaintly made up for it!

Our view was pretty hard to take

The mornings were chilly and still windy, so we made a restaurant inside each morning, which the kids really loved!

We saw whales splashing in the bay every day, which really made our time here special! Along with the superb sunsets, and warm relaxing days.

We did some exploring of the surrounding bays, one day we ventured to the Whale Song Cafe that everyone had told us about. It was a cute cafe with an organic, earthy feel with fantastic views and yummy home made sweets. They have a campground here too.

Another day had us checking out the next bay from our camp, it was also beautiful. Damon had a fish, while the kids and i played on the beach.

Now for those sunset pics, all taken from our camp balcony on the ridge :)

One night i had a play with some time lapse photography

our stay here would have to be another one of our many highlights so far.

Broome Time - Day 89 - 93 (Sat July 21st - Wed July 25th)

We were lucky enough to get a camping site at Cable Beach for 5 nights, where we enjoyed the Broome atmosphere!

Broome is very busy this time of year, everyone wants to head north and escape the chilly southern winter. After coming of the Gibb River Road on Saturday we called into Derby for fuel, and i rang all the caravan parks to check for vacancies. They were all full, i was told to head straight to the Visitor Centre on arrival into Broome, and they will be able to tell me if there were any vacancies after the 10am checkout.

We stayed at Tarangau Caravan Park at Cable Beach, and managed to scam 5 nights in a row on the same site, after a lot of begging mind you.

We enjoyed beautiful sunsets, driving on Cable Beach (could of done without the nuddies though!), Camel rides, markets, swimming in the clear turquoise waters of Cable Beach and Gantheaume Point, strolling through the Japanese Cemetery and just soaking up the balmy feel of historic Broome.

On our last night in Broome before heading up north to Middle Lagoon, we surprised Sienna with a Camel ride! Cam was too chicken and wouldn't get to close to them, so he hung out on the beach with Dad and waited for Sienna and I to return.

Hello Sienna
Im so excited

Waiting!

Here they come Dad

Sienna loved the camel ride which went for half an hour, it was great to see her so excited! After the camel ride, we drove further up the beach and enjoyed another Cable Beach Sunset!

Look at me - I drive cars, not camels
