Day 10 – Cook Town to The Lion’s Den Hotel (Thur May 3rd)

Today was the day they were updating the road closure info, so we wern’t exactly sure where we were heading.  If the roads open, then it’s off to the Cape, and if they don’t, then it’s sticking around somewhere until they do. They weren’t updating the info until 12.30pm, so we decided to go to the Lion’s Den Hotel for a drink and wait until then.

The Lion’s Den Hotel is only 40km south of Cook Town, and it would have to be one of the best, and quirkiest pubs in Australia. It has a great reputation and is a must for people travelling around this area, it’s on most people’s agenda when making the trip to Cape York.

We ended up camping here for the night, at the earliest the roads aren’t going to open until Tue 8th May,
maybe not until Thurs 10thMay. So it could be 5-7 days away. L We are a bit disappointed, as it’s cutting into our time on the cape, but realise we can’t do anything about it. We still have a lot of time up our sleeves, so we are just enjoying where we are and taking our time and not being in a rush.

After setting up we had a swim in The Little Annan Creek which runs past the Lion’s Den and the camping grounds.

Unpowered sites are $20 for 2 people, with heaps of grass and shade and beautiful big trees, it’s really nice.  Here is the link www.lionsdenhotel.com.au

We camped here last July in the exact same spot, the last few days have been a bit like de ja vu.
Not sure if we are staying another night, or heading south tomorrow along the Bloomfield Track to the Daintree and Wonga Beach.
