Day 13 & 14 – Wonga Beach (Sun 6th-Mon 7th)
The last 2 days have been very relaxing. We’ve enjoyed our
stay here at Pinnacle Village. It seems
to be a popular spot for locals to come for camping getaways, they bring their
4 wheeler motorbikes to cruise up and down the beach. They also bring their
boats to fish the Daintree River. The tide has been high in the mornings, with
only a little breeze, then by the arvo the tide is out and the wind picks up a
lot! The low tide allows people to pump for yabbies and kids to explore the mud
flats. And the increasing breeze is good for the kite flyers.
Yesterday we went to the markets at Port Douglas, we were
there by 9am which was a good time as it was pretty quiet. As we were leaving
it was getting quite busy, Port Douglas is a trendy little town and the markets
on a Sunday is obviously the place to be.
In the arvo while Daddy and the kids had a rest i took a
drive into the little Daintree Village. The village is really small, only a few
tourist shops, general store, 2 cafes, a few galleries and booking agents for
Daintree Croc Cruises. Also a small van
park which overlooks the Daintree River.
The drive into the village follows the Daintree River and is quite nice
and scenic.
Back at camp we enjoyed some time on the beach with the kids
and the long weekenders. A few people were getting ready for bon fires on the
beach to watch the full moon.
Later in the arvo, everyone was on the beach
having sun downers and waiting for the full moon to rise. It was quite
spectacular when it came up
Today we sat back and watched everyone pack up and head
home, it was a nice feeling not having to do the same. And knowing we still
have 6 months or so to be doing what we are doing today, and that’s enjoying
the easy life and seeing this great country of ours.
We leave tomorrow, we are going north (again) towards Laura.
We’ve don’t a big circle this past week. And have seen some beautiful country.
The road will hopefully open tomorrow and we will be off on our adventure to
Cape York! They are updating the road closure info in the morning so fingers
crossed!!
